RACS
Rocket Attitude Control System
RACS (Rocket Attitude Control System) is a student project with the goal of designing a small rocket and its attitude control system, developed by students at Luleå University of Technology.
The project investigates the development and implementation of an active attitude control system for a rocket by firstly focusing on stabilizing the roll motion during flight. The system uses onboard sensors to measure the rocket’s orientation and a control algorithm to determine the required corrections.
The project includes developing an onboard flight computer, where the sensors interact with the microcontroller which actively controls the servo-actuated control surfaces during the flight. The system is designed to detect changes in attitude and actively counteract these changes by adjusting the control surfaces.
Finally, RACS aims to demonstrate the feasibility of attitude control and provide insight into the design and implementation, demonstrating that a guided rocket is possible at a larger scale.
